Myanmar

A small country nestled near Bangladesh and India, Myanmar is a predominately Buddhist nation. It is considered one of the poorest countries in Southeast Asia, relying on agriculture to meet the needs of its poor. Burmars are the largest ethnic group and they dominate the government, civil and military service. Outlying regions provide settlements for ethnic minorities such as the Muslim Rohingyas in the state of Rakhine. Muslim Rohingyas have been the focus of the Unitied Nations as they are forced to flee by the thousands to Bangladesh, Taken with a vintage Hasselblad film camera in 2017, these photographs are portraits of ordinary people and their places, whether a farmer crossing a hillside with his oxen; a fisherman at work on his long-tailed boat; elder monks meditating in an ancient temple; or a young novice monk reading a book in the light of an ancient temple. Toned, silver gelatin prints are available for purchase (see contact page).
