Crossing the Serengeti

On safari in Tanzania, Africa in 2010, I was inspired by the enormity of the far-reaching, grassy, acacia strewn savanna; the power and vulnerability that coexisted within the same creature; the awesome beauty and majesty of the inhabitants of the Serengeti Plain. Taken with a vintage Hasselblad film camera, these black-and-white images represent my attempt to capture a small part of the essence of the Serengeti and its inhabitants, whether a watchful mother cheetah and her cub, dawn breaking, a tiny dik-dik antelope taking cover in the African grass, a lioness resting on thorny shrubs, a vanishing forest of Yellow-Barked Acacias, a giant Masaii bull giraffe pointing to the sky, or pouring rain on graceful acacias. Silver gelatin prints are available for purchase (see contact page)
